A souvenir could be anything. It’s a keepsake, a memento; something to remember a place or event by.
Souvenirs could be small objects that can be easily carried – a fridge magnet, a t shirt, a mug or even a plate, but they could also be bigger investments like a chair, an ornate mirror, or a carpet.
At Chennaigaga, we realised that certain memorabilia found all over the globe were missing from the city’s souvenir offerings. They were products that people across the world could easily identify with, and put to use in their daily lives.
We began with t-shirts. Tamilnadu’s Tirupur is known for its wide variety of cotton t-shirts and at Chennaigaga, we wanted to go the extra mile. We didn’t want a ‘use-and-throw’ quality for our tshirts. And so, we set a good standard for the tees and included colours people love – blues, reds, greys, blacks. We focussed on the quality so that the T-Shirt would be durable and reasonably-priced too. Fridge magnets were a natural addition and so were ceramic mugs with bright and quirky motifs. Later, we made t-shirts for kids as well, since the demand was high. Tea coasters were introduced to satisfy the needs of customers who travelled a lot and needed easy gifts to carry along. We also brought cloth bags in to the collection as part of our ‘Go Green’ policy. Further accessories followed, like key chains and mouse pads, to brighten up living spaces with fun reminders of Namma Chennai.
After all, Chennaiite or tourist, NRI or expatriate, memories of Madras and catchy recalls of Chennai are never far from the heart.
Go Gaga over Chennai!
